About the Tamar Project

The Projeto Tamar is one of the most important marine conservation programs in Brazil. Created in 1980, the project’s main goal is to protect endangered sea turtles along the Brazilian coastline.

One of the most visited bases of the project is located in Praia do Forte, in the municipality of Mata de São João, about 80 km from Salvador.

In addition to turtle conservation, the project also carries out scientific research, beach monitoring, and environmental education programs.
